Tom Cruise is the lucky owner of the First Ducati Superbike
Hollywood star Tom Cruise will prove he’s real-life Top Gun when he becomes the first person in the world to
rev up the new Ducati superbike. The actor is scheduled to take delivery of the $72,500 USD - made from titanium, magnesium and carbon fiber technology - later this week.
The motorbike can reach speeds of up to 200 mph.
Although Cruise rode a Kawasaki Ninja 900 in his iconic scene in hit flick Top Gun, he’ll get the first of only 1,500 of the red-and-white Moto GP racing replica motorcycles being made.
Cruise, 45, is expected to take delivery of the bike at Beverly Hills Ducati, in California, this week.
Cruise, who is worth more than $250 million USD, is known to have an affinity for fast vehicles, including motorcycles, Porsches and planes.
Some estimate the actor spent $1 million USD in 2006 on fuel alone.
And it has been reported that Cruise this month bought one of his three private jets for his wife, Katie Holmes, for $20 million.
The A-list star arrived for a promotion of his film Mission: Impossible III on a $60,000 Confederate motorcycle.
He escaped unharmed in March 2005 when he crashed his turbo-charged Ducati in Beverly Hills after skidding on a patch of oil.
The crash threw the actor on to the road, but he he was able to sign autographs for concerned fans before jumping back on his bike, according to reports at the time.
Michael Lock, chief of Ducati North America, branded the Desmosedici RR “the impossible dream - made possible.”
He said: “We are delighted to be able to deliver the world’s first production unit here in the USA to Tom Cruise.”
